Jonas Gerigk is a double bass player and works mainly in the fields of improvised music. For many years he has been cultivating his own musical vocabulary using techniques, objects and preparations, which he constantly refines and adapts in various improvising ensembles and his solo project. In addition to touring with his solo project (Germany 2021, France 2022, Scandinavia 2023), he is part of improvising ensembles that focus on shaping a common language and distinctive band sound. Interdisciplinary work with composers, dancers and visual artists is occasionally part of this practice.
His academic education included studies at the HfM Dresden, the NMH Oslo (Bachelor) and the HfMT Cologne (Master), guided by many inspiring mentors. Since September 2024, a PhD in Artistic Research is in progress at HSLU Hochschule Lucerne – Music.
From 2017 until today, 21 albums have been released as leader, co-leader or sideman. Among them, the solo album Sound Plantings (2021) may be of particular interest, as it draws on self-developed playing techniques cultivated through a long-term process during his master’s studies in Cologne. Concert tours have taken him to France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic and to many parts of Germany.

There has been involvement in organizing concert series, including the radio shows HEIMklang (Dresden) and SnapShot (Cologne), where changing groups of musicians performed free improvisations live in the studio. Between October 2020 and February 2021, the series RAUMKLANG – Explorative Music was organized at the KunstRaum Dorissa Lem in Cologne. In 2023, six residencies with final concerts followed at the saxstall jazz club in Pohrsdorf under the title FREIER FREITAG. Membership in musicians’ collectives such as IMPAKT – Improvisation and Contemporary Music Cologne and Mullbau Lucerne has further expanded these organizational activities.
